Provenance & Authenticity
How this collection was discovered and authenticated, and what each purchase includes.
Discovery of the Collection
This collection of approximately 40 original illustrations was discovered at a car boot sale. The works were identified as those of John Jensen, dating from his early career at the London Evening News.
Direct correspondence was established with the artist. John Jensen confirmed the works as his own, describing them as “ancient stuff of mine.” This confirmation was given by Jensen in his own words, prior to his passing.
Several of the works also bear studio stamps from Jensen’s London address — further supporting the attribution.
Authentication
The attribution rests on three foundations:
- Direct confirmation by the artist. John Jensen confirmed these works as his own in correspondence.
- Studio stamps. Some works bear stamps from Jensen’s London studio address, consistent with the period in which they were created.
- Material consistency. The works are consistent in medium, technique, and subject matter with Jensen’s known early output.

Common characteristics of works from this period:
- Slight toning or yellowing of paper
- Soft handling creases, typically at edges
- Pencil notations in margins (often production references)
- Minor surface marks consistent with studio use
These are evidence of an authentic working life.
Framing & Care
Works are sold unframed. We recommend professional framing with acid-free mount board and UV-protective glass. For long-term preservation: keep out of direct sunlight, avoid humid environments, and handle with clean, dry hands.
